I started this book before vacation last summer, and forgot about it in my suitcase until a week or so ago, not because it was a bad book, just that I hadn't gotten far into it at the time. Dreyer's protagonist Molly Burke is a very complex character. Vietnam vet, trauma nurse, death investigator, black sheep of the family, among other roles. At times, it was hard keeping track of them all. For example, she is a trauma nurse at one hospital because she is the subject of a lawsuit at another hosp [...]

"I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review"I've tried several times to get into this book. And I just can't. Feel like there is just too much going on. Just hard to follow. DNF

A plot full of twists, a likable heroine, bad lawyer jokes, and a clinical trial for a new drug touted as better than Prozac. Eileen Dreyer's 1992 suspense, now available as an eBook, follows Molly Burke, part time ER Code Captain, and co-workers as prominent St. Louis lawyers commit suicide within a three week span. As part time Death Inspector, Molly's curiosity kicks into high when her friend Pearl Johnson is the fifth suicide. When the medical turns up missing, Molly's career is jeopardized. [...]

It's the opposite of a "page turner book" more like "Page dragging book". It starts with the prologue . Prologue should be the best part of the book. It supposes to draw you instantly, into the book, with high anticipation. In this book – nothing. Just another boring page. So you continue with your reading anyway. Nothing. Just a stream of bodies getting to the ER. You turn each page just because it ended.Well. There are so many other good books out there. Why waist the time on such boring, an [...]

The ranking of four stars on this one seems right to me. It is full of action and suspense, though it gets somewhat confusing at the end. Molly used to be a nurse, but now investigates the deaths of patients in the hospital where she works. A new drug comes out--it is in trials, and a number of colleagues are investing in it hoping to make a bundle. However, there are five lawyers who have committed suicide after taking it. It is a good thing that Molly acquires a dog, because all of a sudden, m [...]

BAD MEDICINE - DNFDreyer, Eileen - 1st in Molly Burke seriesIt seems like another full-moon kind of shift for trauma nurse and part-time death investigator Molly Burke -- until a highly regarded lawyer is wheeled in, dead from an apparent suicide. The third dead lawyer that month. The matter is soon forgotten until a fourth suicide comes in. Molly begins to investigate and becomes the target of death threats. If she doesn't find the killer quickly, she could become the next victim.I just couldn' [...]

I really like Dreyer, I really like her characters, even though they are so often on the outer edge of extremis. In fact, about half the time, her heroines are recovering from a breakdown of one kind or another. Despite the fact that they are not happy books, they are really, really good, and there are moments of intense hilarity- as with the duck and the tattoo. Loved it.

3.5 stars. An interesting story with a very intriguing heroine. Apparently there are other books featuring this character, which I haven't read. That may be why I felt there was a lot about her I didn't know. The mystery was intriguing, and the bad guy was a surprise. I recommend this book to anyone who likes medical thrillers.

When I first saw this book and with the review by Tami Hoag, I thought it's worth the money and time. I was disappointed big time, it let me down, cos I've never been let down by any Medical crime novels. The story was dry, long and it's based on just one person, no peek into the culprit's life and the sudden twist at the end. Just a no no for me.

Could not get into this book. Actually stopped reading before I finished it so I guess it doesn't count toward my total.

Did not finish. Just the first few chapters were stressing me out. The main character seems so incompetent.
