The 40% of technical terms about being a dealer in a bank should have turned me off, but as usual, Sheila O'Flanagan is an engaging writer; she has a way of engaging me to the pages even though I have to live through 600 pages of ups and downs financial market jargons to enjoy the story. It is a very enjoyable story. Looking forward to the next one!

Good Read it was Too technical with all the financial involvement, but the romance was nice. I liked it and understood it too!! :P

It was published in 2016 and yet, whole book is about all characters asking the main character or rushing her - a businesswoman - about eventual marriage and kids. Seriously? It was a subject in Jane Austen's times - XVIII century. Additionally, it's all much much much much too long, not bright or funny neither.

I enjoyed this even though I have zero interest in money markets. Although there were details that were meaningless to me it was interesting to have a setting that was different. I do get irritated by product placement in novels but I suppose others don,t mind.

Loved it Happy it wasnt run of the mill. Loved Alix and her story and could identify with it totally. Sheila grows on you

600 pages and a bit of a doorstop and yet I devoured it in no time. A really entertaining book about successful businesswoman Alix Callaghan who manages the dealing room (Foreign Exchange) of a bank. She has it all going for her – a great job, a lovely apartment in Dublin and a happy relationship – or so she thinks. Out of the blue her boyfriend Paul throws a cat among the pigeons and says he wants to settle down with children – not something Alix sees as a near future event in her life. B [...]

I was almost put off this book in the first chapter by the excessive detail of Alex's work in Dublin as a high powered financial dealer in foreign exchange - a world of dealing in mega dollars and a world I do not understand. However I began to relate to it more as we learned about Alex's private life - jilted by her partner of many years who was seeking a family life, and the return of a her father who had deserted his family when she was little. Linked with her stressful job and colleagues fig [...]

This is the first book by this author that I have read and enjoyed it. Will read more by her.Back Cover Blurb:What do you do when you find yourself suddenly single?Go suddenly suicidal?Suddenly sex-crazed?Or simply collapse in self-pity?Alix Callaghan, who thought she was in control of her work-packed life, feels like doing all three when her long-term boyfriend insists on settling down to a sensible existence - complete with children, proper meals and early nights - but without her.Though mothe [...]

This was honestly like reading the financial times. An entire book focusing on finances and trading. When it wasn't describing currency rates, it explored one very vile woman's love life. Alix was probably the most awful character I've ever come across. She was rude, abrupt, stuck up and just an all round dragon. Everything she said was laced with utter nastyness and I couldnt for the life of me understand why one man, Matt was chasing her?!I would have given it three stars had it not been for t [...]

This was my first time reading a book by Sheila O'Flanagan and I really enjoyed it. This story explores the interesting dilemma of a working woman who isn't sure she ever wants children and certainly isn't in a hurry to find out. Her challenging career is important to her and she is constantly judged and scrutinized for this. I think this is a really important dynamic to explore and I found the story very interesting all the way through. I will be looking for more books by this author.

I don't remember much about this book other than that it went into a LOT of detail about the main character's job, which was something to do with shares or stocks? I can't remember but this really put me off the book and I ended up returning it to the library half-finished. I barely managed to pass Standard Grade Maths so reading a book about selling shares isn't going to interest me, especially when it claimed to be chick-lit!

I like Sheila O'Flanagan's books and Suddenly Single lived up to expectations. It's about a high-flying career woman who gets dumped by her long-term boyfriend which throws her carefully controlled life into disarray. No big surprises or plot twists, but then this book is about feelings and emotions. A good comfort read for a dreary winter weekend.

Another fun brit chit lit book. Much enjoyed that the main heroine is the head of a foreign exchange desk in London, and kicks some ass. :-) Oh yeah - and her guy leaves her and she goes off her rocker for a whilea great cottage summer read.

DisappointingShe usually tells a good tale. Hard!y any story. Too much conversation about the trading room and figures which I didn't understand. There really wasn't any depth to the plot.

An easy read. Previous reviewers are right there is quite a lot if financial referencing but I didn't mind it. it did not detract from the story for me. Most people have said they didn't like Alix I did not feel that way in fact I related to her in many ways.

Hmz. It was pretty interesting to read about a female protagonist who wasn't all maternal and husband seeking for a change. That, I think, was the best bit. It dragged a bit, but it was a pretty neat story, and, as I said, something of a refreshing change for a girly read.

The book is all about a career woman's life of work, family & boyfriend thingy. Luckily I was working in Banking which helped a lot in understanding d markets products and banking life. It's not quite excited but indeed a good read for me.

this book was exceptionally boring. Too many details about Alix's job as a dealer and nò real substance. I dont know how oŕ why I finished this book but it will be the last book I reaď by this author.
