As a fan of serial novels (NOT novellas), I was introduced to Alexis Parker via Mimicry of Banshees for free via Kindle. From the first couple of pages, the book was clearly able to stand-alone, but would be more enjoyable for me if I read the series chronologically. And am I ever glad I did. Likely Suspects introduces a character on the verge of a new career. Her first time out, Parker becomes an unwitting bodyguard as well as a corporate security specialist. A cast of supporting characters hel [...]

The beginning of Likely Suspects grabbed me. But then I got bogged down by the over-explaining and the forced romantic tension. I'm showing my age, but it reminded me of the old "Moonlighting" banter without Bruce Willis' wit and charm. The protagonist's wealthy employer/love interest is reassuring her:"I wouldn't worry about it. The guy you're working for isn't too unreasonable." He was referring to himself in the third person. That last sentence? Thank you for the clarification.

'Likely Suspects' was an action packed thrilling read. I loved the suspense and mystery. Once I started reading, I couldn't put this book down. Alex was a good kick-ass bodyguard. She made a great lead. Martin is the typical millionaire boss with the playboy attitude, but I enjoyed his sense of humor. The characters were great. The storyline was well written. I liked the way the story played out. A great add to your tbr list. I look forward to reading more of Alex and Martin's story.

Real page turnerThis book is full of stories within the story, I was hooked on the way the author intermingled the romance and dangerous aspects of the Espionage within the investigation of murder, corporate embezzling, with a little humor thrown in for good measure. I was a little disappointed with the ending because I wanted the story to keep going, this author has a knack with words that left me wanting more.

Very goodI was quite happy with the style this book presents. There is a romance brewing but every thing written was tastefully done and the boundaries of business and personal lives were not yet crossed. Maybe in the next book.

I really enjoyed the first in the series of the Alexis Parker books, enjoyed it as much as the 2nd in the series. The banter between the main characters is a great addition to the novel. Think I will continue with the series.

Well written novel about a CEO who's threatened, with no clue why, hiring Alexis Parker to help with security and be his bodyguard. Alex and Mark, her buddy from her previous job, do a lot of figuring and guessing. Martin, the CEO, is hilarious, smart, and interesting. The main person behind everything was obvious, as was the motive once it was mentioned, but the minor characters and some of the loose ends were a good part of the plot. Looking forward to reading more.

I put this book down to go to bed. This is a "must read" for the mystery book worm. All of the characters interacted with each other in a manner that kept mesmerized the entire time while I was rearing.

solid 3* More suspense than mystery, but well done and without things I often dislike in the more suspense-like books. Would read more.

Nothing i haven't read before. From realizing the first set up was a set up to the ending which limped to its conclusion, I was totally underwhelmed.

CEO is threatened female security expert is hired A CEO needs protection and hires a female ex-FBI security expert and bodyguard. It was a pleasant read, but I didn't feel engaged with the characters or the plot.

Fun book Enjoyed the book. Lots of humor, mystery and hidden romance. Please read. You will enjoy this book. Just long enough for a great weekend.

super coolgood story line. I remembered some of the facts/clues before they did, but the flow was good. action seemed real. language was a tad rough, but most today is worse. not a mushy romance nov. a good thriller. mp

Gripping, fast-paced story that kept the reader intrigued until the very end. Although this book is often classified as mystery, it tends to be more reminiscent of a thriller/suspense with numerous action scenes, including explosions and shootouts. The characters are well-written and relatable. The story is written from the point of view of the main character, Alexis Parker. She is an ex-federal agent who at times seems to be a bit abrasive, but her smart-alecky attitude and Sherlockian skill-se [...]

A Little DryLily Suspects was a story with no real mystery. I kept thinking something would turn up to prove that the obvious suspect was not the one but it never happened. There was just no suspense in the entire book. There was one horrendous shootout toward the end but it was just out of the blue. There were so many unanswered questions. Why did the killer want to kill this guy? What did he gain from it? Who actually killed the office assistant supervisor? Why was she dumped in the dumpster o [...]

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this but I found I really liked it! I found Alex and Martin annoying at first but they both grew on me and I liked them both by the end. I really enjoyed the peripheral characters, too, especially Mark, O'Connell, and Marcal. Though the story was a little predictable, it was still interesting and I enjoyed watching it play out. I also really loved how the ending was clearly a set-up for the series but still enough of an ending to not elicit the "WTF" response so many [...]

Prime Suspect!A multimillionaire hired Alex as a security consultant to look into recent sabotage and other company incidents . She examined the company security, and employees and finding no flaws made minor improvements. She couldn't know someone would not only breach and weaken the company, but bring serious consequences.Suspense, action, terror and death keep you glued to your couch and up late reading to the ending.

To the point, tight and intriguingI like mysteries, even if I guess the bad guy. The plus on this story was the feisty main character and the responses from the others. This writer managed to not only hold my interest, but brought me into the situation. I liked that. I will read more of her books!

A light easy to read action packed thriller of a novel that starts the Alexis Parker series. The author has managed to blend in the normal ingredients of murder, investigation, espionage, theft, fraud and a little romance thrown in for good measure to create a book that has set a high level of expectation in the books to follow.Wonderful read between the heavy ones.Enjoy!

I enjoyed this fast paced novel, but the ending was incredibly flat. Once the mystery was solved, I was waiting for a twist or something else to change to continue the flow. It came together too neatly. I finished thinking, "That's it?" I plan on reading the next book in the series because, overall, it was worth the time I spent in reading it.

CaptivatingA very interesting and entertaining mystery read that kept me wanting to turn the pages faster to discover just what or who was going to enter the storyline next. Very enjoyable.

Enjoyable I enjoyed this book and the characters. I want more. I could do without the f-words. a few places were confusing as to who was speaking and their placement. ( in bed? on the couch? in the car? in the ambulance?)is the author male or female? I couldn't tell.

Too much self doubt. This book starts a new series. The protagonist is insecure and keeps doubting whether she is up to doing her job. Of course she does the job, but keeps trying to discount any credit. I hope the series develops her character more fully.

Wow, I'm WAY out of sync with the rest of the reviews. This was one of the most bland books I've read. I'm not sure if the author wanted a thriller or a routine rom-com. I won't be reading any others in this series.

CapThe book was quite captivating, suspenseful, with a dash of romance. A little humor that gave the story credibility. Fun

I enjoyed this book. It seemed to start off slowly but I got involved with the characters and so wanted to finish. I must say I did guess the bad guy though.

Good read.Held my attention. It was an inThe story held my attention . It was an interesting Precept and kept the suspense going.
