This is a very comprehensive overview of digital storytelling, and I spent as much time digging around in the notes section as I did reading the book. Gotta love a well-researched book! I read this because I'm teaching a storytelling class in May, although my class is more of a 1.0 (non-digital) focus. I do plan to incorporate stories others have told in forms of digital media, so I still got bits out of the middle that focused on the types of digital media used in storytelling. The end of the b [...]

I was first introduced to digital storytelling during a video production section of an intro to digital media class at Vancouver Island University. I was almost finished my Creative Writing degree and the topic was relatively new to me. Fast forward and we see an industry that is increasingly going digital. From writers like J.C. Hutchins, Scott Sigler, Murr Lafferty, to producers of podcasts and web series like Chris Hardwick and Felicia Day content creators have more power to be creative. But [...]

Bryan Alexander’s The New Digital Storyteling (2011) is a fantastic resource for everything technological. This book contains information about various digital platforms that are available and offers good advice on how to use them. Alexander considers the use of technology in the building of collaborative and interactive stories. This information is very useful for my ‘Just Desserts’ blog community-building project. I am sure to turn back to this resource as I continue to build my blog.

Worth checking this book out if you are serious about creating digital content. Learning how to weave audio, video and text together to create a compelling narrative is becoming an essential part of the media and entertainment landscape. tellingdigitalstories
