All reviews can be found on my blog at thewritinggarnet.wordpressAs a huge history fan, I struggled to contain my excitement when the opportunity arose to read Gill Paul’s new novel. Even if you’re not a complete history buff, there is a high chance you’ll have heard of the name, ‘Wallis Simpson’. Also, if you remember a certain date in 1997 when ‘The People’s Princess’ lost her life, you may already find yourself knowing several of the key points of the storyline without even re [...]

What a fabulous book. I was slightly dubious that it would not live up to my expectations after the The Secret Wife which was wonderful. I was hooked from the start and enjoyed the whole story. So poignant to be reminded of the tragic death of Princess Diana at this time in the parallel story that ran alongside.Of course I was aware of the story of Edward and Mrs Simpson but it was very interesting to hear this from Wallis's friend's point of view.I know some artistist licence will have been use [...]

This review can also be found at:overtherainbowbookblog.wordprI loved Gill Paul’s first book, The Secret Wife, so when an opportunity arose to be on the blog tour for her new book I happily volunteered. It was fascinating to learn more about Wallis Simpson and discover more about her early life. I felt she was quite a complex character and I could never work out whether i liked her or not. At times I felt desperately sorry for her as she definitely goes through some tough moments but at others [...]

Gill Paul’s The Secret Wife was one of my top 5 books last year so when the opportunity to read and review Another Woman’s Husband came my way, I may have done a little jig around my living room. When I finally settled down to read, I immediately knew I was in for another treat.August 31st, 1997. For many of us, this date is probably burnt into our brains. This day is how the story starts when Rachel and her fiancé, Alex, find themselves in a taxi right behind the car accident that claims t [...]

In this fascinating portrayal of two of history's most famous women, Gill Paul takes us behind the scenes of lives and events we think we know well and challenges us to think again. With a pacy narrative that moves between the coming-of-age of a young woman called Wallis in the early 20th century, and the death of Princess Diana in 1997, Another Woman's Husband is a vivid study of Wallis and Diana through two very different lenses: those of Wallis's best friend, Mary, and of a young woman unwit [...]

Spoiled by the same bloggers who always get their names inside of books. This is the reason I closed my website down as I have been reviewing for years on lots of book websites doing excellent reviews for authors and publishers but never have a book publishing company not once used one of my quotes from my reviews inside books . So I closed my website down. Myself and a lot of blogger'put a lot of hard work into writing up reviews adding them on a blog site as well as major book sites. I persona [...]

There are times when only fluffy easy-reading will do and this is ideal: the stronger strand follows the life of Wallis Simpson via her best friend from school; the weaker story is about a documentary-maker investigating the death of Princess Diana and, frankly, it flounders around before fizzling out, and there's only the flimsiest connection between the two stories. It's obviously not deep and meaningful but is less sentimental than it could have been. With attention to gorgeous dresses, it's g [...]

Book reviews on snazzybooks I didn't read up much about this novel before I started it, and I'm so glad I didn't. It really surprised me - both in the plot (I'd forgotten that one of the narratives is set just after Diana's death in 1997, but find the entire subject so interesting) and the way certain parts seemed unconnected but then came together in unexpected ways.I loved reading both timeframes; the 1997 narrative is something I can very vaguely remember happening - I was only 7 at the time, [...]

Wow wow and wow again. How have I not heard of this true life story before? Wallis simpson and Princess Diana are such iconic figures but Wallis's childhood and life up until and after she married the king of England is utterly fascinating! With a brilliant touch of phrase and a deft touch of historical intrigue and creative flourish, the period and the people come to life from the page. I half expect the finished book to have gilded pages and be displayed in the shops on a velvet cushion. The st [...]

I wasn't sure about how I felt with princess Diana being part of the story (only in name) at first but I got used to it. The book is set in two different eras. In 1997 the story is about Alex and Rachel. They have just gotten engaged the night of Diana's fateful crash. They witness the aftermath of the crash in the Paris tunnel. The other sections of the book start out in the 1900s when Wallis Simpson was a young girl (Mary) and how she and Mary Raffay become like sisters. Mary Raffay was a real [...]

An utterly mesmerising and enchanting read - I adored every bit of it, especially the story of Wallis Simpson.

Having read and loved Gill Paul's previous books I was very excited to see that "Another Woman's Husband" is going to be published. To be honest with you, I haven't even read the synopsis - well, it IS Gill Paul's book, right, so it must be brilliant, no? It took me a little by surprise to eventually discover that the story features real characters, such as Diana Spencer and Wallis Simpson for example, but it doesn't mean that the story was not as exciting and rich with historical facts, full of [...]

I love Gill Paul’s writing; having reviewed on the blog her two previous historical novels, No Time for A Lady (Crimea War) and The Secret Wife (the Romanovs), my excitement levels were sky high when I first heard that the next release would be another historical, this time featuring Wallis Simpson. The story is set over two timelines and focuses on two historic events. The tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales in Paris in August 1997 and decades before, the life and marriage of Wallis Simps [...]

Having devoured Gill Paul's previous novels I couldn't wait to get my hands on this and was very lucky to be able to see a preview of it. Whenever you read a book from a favourite author you wonder if it will live up to their other work but when reading Gill Paul's books you know you're going to get a special book, rich with history and atmosphere with beautifully crafted characters and with plenty of themes that keep you wanting to turn those pages- this is definitely the case with Another Woma [...]

Gill Paul weaves pure magic with words. Another Woman's Husband has kept me gripped for the past few days, and I can honestly say that this is going to be one of my favourite reads of 2017.I've always been intrigued and fascinated by Wallis Simpson, and whilst some of this story is fictionalised, there is no doubt that a whole lot of it is based on the truth. Add the story of our modern-day icon; Princess Diana, and for me, this was always going to be a winner.Another Woman's Husband is a dual n [...]

I only discovered the wonderful author Gill Paul the year before last when I read No Place for a Lady. Then last year along came the brilliant The Secret Wife and now she is back once again with another intriguing, interesting read - Another Women's Husband. This new book again blends historical fact with fiction with a focus on Wallis Simpson and Princess Diana. The subject matter of this story is very timely considering the imminent 20th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. It still feels li [...]

‘Another Woman's Husband’ is an intriguing tale of relationships, secrets, betrayals and forgiveness. It is a fabulous work of historical fiction - involved and well thought out, bringing characters and stories we all ‘know’ about to life. Supported by factual information concerning Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson (as well as other historical figures of the time) you will be running to consult Google. Gill Paul does pretty much a flawless job at combining timelines, viewpoints and non/ [...]

I wondered if this book would be redundant of another book I read a couple of decades ago about the king who abdicated for an American divorcee. In some ways, it was but only to the extent to establish Wallis’ character. What previous accounts left blank that this one covers wonderfully are the supporting characters of Wallis Simpson’s climb into the history books. In fact, the POV is written as a very old friend of Wallis who plays an important part in her story. Since I read the earlier bo [...]

This book appealed to me as soon as I read the blurb. I am a lover of historical fiction and I was intrigued by how the lives of Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson could be linked together in a novel, as in my eyes they are two very different personalities. However, It soon became apparent that the reason was that both women 'challenged the house of Windsor' making this book a very interesting read. However, this book is not just for lovers of historical fiction. It will appeal to all, as the stor [...]

A novel of Wallis Simpson and Princess Diana (New York, Brighton, Paris)I read this book around the 20th anniversary (2017) of the death of Princess Diana in the Alma Tunnel, 31 August 1997. It was a very apt and poignant read as the book opens with Rachel and Alex driving up just behind the crash scene in the tunnel, leaping out to see if they could be of help and being stunned by the flashes of the Paparazzi, as they photographed a dying woman and her dead beau.Alex, with eagle eyes, spots a s [...]

What a fascinating book. When I saw Another Woman's Husband was available in ebook I bought it .I had previously read and loved The Secret Wife by Gill Paul so I was eager to read the story of two fascinating women, Princess Diana and Wallis Simpson.I didn't want this book to end. It was so well done. You get some insight into both fascinating women and the people that surrounded their lives. I appreciated and learned from the Afterword. Thanks Gill Paul, I know several people who I will purchas [...]

Another wonderful book by Gill Paul. I was so excited to read this book and it certainly didn't disappoint . I would have given this book five stars but felt it ended too abruptly

This book covers two time periods, beginning in 1997 with the death of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed in the Alma tunnel in Paris; and then back in time to 1911, and the school days of Bessiewallis Warfield - the future Wallis Simpson. It is fascinating on both levels- the investigation and rumours surrounding Princess Diana's death are well known, and this story is related from the viewpoint of Alex, an investigative journalist. The life of Wallis Simpson forms the bulk of the book and is tol [...]

As a reader who studiously avoids historical fiction I surprised myself. I started reading hesitantly as I thought that it would not be long before I gave up on it and read something else. My surprise is that I very much enjoyed it and read right through to the end, so congratulations Gill. If my reaction is the same as every other historical fiction reader then you now have a much wider audience, unless of course you do already. The writing style is comfortable for me, neither too easy read or t [...]

Wow. What an amazing book. The way it was written intertwined with the Wallis era and Princess Diana was amazing. The detail was so true to form, and transported me right back to that dreadful say August 31 1997, and the aftermath - I remember going to Manchester Cathedral to sign the Book of Condolence and took a plant. It was a very significant year in my own life after that and I did find the book evoked all kinds of emotions for me personally. However I absolutely loved it and although I hav [...]

An easy to read historical fiction based on the friendship between Bessie Wallis Warfield and Mark Kirk spanning several decades. The story also links in with Rachel, an vintage clothes shop owner who witnesses the aftermath of the car crash that kills Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997.The writing style was easy to read and absorbing. I enjoyed the story-line and learning about the prohibition era New York, 1930s London, and exploring the complicated relationships formed in this time. I remember [...]

I’ve always been totally fascinated by the story of Wallis Simpson and the constitutional crisis in which she found herself caught up – but I think I’ve always had a slightly rose-tinted view of her involvement, of a king turning down his destiny for love. I knew little about her early life, and very little about the German connection or what happened to the couple when the furore was over. Through meticulous research and the most fluent of story telling, Gill Paul brings her vividly to li [...]

This is my normal sort of read at all but I was intrigued by the great reviews it was getting. Totally gripping and so well written - couldn't put it down!Thoroughly recommend !

I really enjoyed reading this book .It tells the stories of Wallis Simpson's life and Princess Diana's Death but also there is the modern day fictional characters of Rachel and Alex running through it ,so clever. This makes it a very compelling read and is a real page turner .The book takes us to two time periods 1911 Wallis Simpsons era and 1997 with the death of Princess Diana .I loved this book and I didn't want it to end .If I could give it 10 stars I would !!!
