You're not paranoid, they are watching youI started reading this author from one of his short stories, Two and a Half Weeks. It reminded me of Carl Hiaasen's work, offbeat characters with a love of the outdoors. Blacktip Island is in the same style, but more matter of fact and less humorous than the short story, though still well written.Running from the law, your past, your family, your last failed relationship, or any combination thereof? A one-way ticket to Blacktip Island is the way to start [...]

Blacktip Island Psst--want to have a fantastic Caribbean adventure and save some moola? How about an Islander hop to a fictional Caribbean, Blacktip Island? The sun, the surf, the peoplebut what about the people? Well, that's the thing, you see. Blake Calloway had it good, working in his dad's investment firm, right up until he screwed up a few decimal points. An innocent mistake! Unfortunately, when he tries to disappear on a remote island with some cash, blending in with the other scuba enthus [...]

Reviewed by David K. McDonnell for Reader Views (07/16)Article first published as Book Review: ‘Blacktip Island’ by Tim W. Jackson on Blogcritics.“Blacktip Island” by Tim W. Jackson is a fascinating, well-written story. The lead character is an almost-inadvertent embezzler from the United States who seeks anonymity in a small (fictional) Caribbean island. The island, it turns out, is inhabited almost entirely by others hiding from their pasts. They work as cooks, barmaids, charter captai [...]

I found this book a stark mix of pros and cons. The fast pace of the writing and plot set in the beauty of a tropical island went a long way to propel me through the pages, but it was the characters of Blacktip Island that really drew me into the book. The author has put a lot of thought into making each one unique and interesting and this extra effort paid off to create an engaging read. The story itself, like the book, contains a sharp contrast of elements. In one moment we are experiencing the [...]

Missing money, a beautiful island, and lots of crazy characters are what make up "Blacktip Island" by Tim. W. Jackson. When Blake screws up at his job (even his father can't overlook his misplaced decimal points again) he takes the money and runs to Blacktip Island, a fictional Caribbean island. It's beautiful, and Blake - now Hugh - already has a job as a dive instructor. It helps that the beautiful Mal works there too. How can Hugh keep his identity a secret when he feels he's being watched al [...]

No need to summarize the book, and the publisher's blurb will give you some clues. The characters are all looney and the action will have you snorting your Mai Tais! Fun and hilarity totally describe this book! Thanks, LibraryThing for having this as a Giveaway!

Having enjoyed his vacation to Blacktip Island, and having connected with Mal (or at least he thought so), it seems that the island is the ideal place for Blake to try to hide from the authorities while he tries to figure out how to make things right. He had mistakenly transposed some numbers in a few accounts and loses some clients a good bit of money. In an effort to fix the situation, he ended up making it worse by embezzling the money to pay it back. All Blake does is make things work for hi [...]

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and you can read more of my reviews at spinesinaline.wordpressThis was definitely an easy read but it left me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. I was expecting a laugh-out loud funny story but this one was a lot more subdued. There were plenty of sarcastic remarks that garnered a few smirks and the crazy crew of characters added a quirky spin but nothing really hit hard enough to actually make me laugh. It’s also kind of har [...]

Blake is a screw-up son to a well-to-do family trying to find a better place in life. The man’s relationships with his father, girlfriend, and job are all in the process of going to hell as the story starts – and we find him on a quiet Caribbean island contemplating the value of running away from it all. He decides to try and fix things – and it all falls apart anyway, rather quickly. The story itself is full of flavorful text, accents, and immersive details which made reading a joy. The si [...]
