Mary Kelly lies dead upon her bed Her sorrowful eyes still hold captive, the agony of her fate. Anger, and fear walk side by side as the populace of London demand justice for the slain. Is it a single mad man or is there a bloody political game being played out in the grime filled streets of the old City? The authorities are powerless to stop the bloodletting and call for a new kind of law. William Harkness, former officer of the 66th Regiment of Foot will join the hunt. His task is not to bring [...]

Finally we have the new book from Robert Southworth. It feels like I’ve been waiting ages but let me tell you the wait has been worth it!If you’ve read Rob’s previous series focusing on Spartacus you will know he has a talent for making a story based loosely on history. It’s an interesting style of story and If I’m honest before reading this book I wasn’t 100% sure it would work.e whole ripper event are well documented so I just couldn’t see an story to be told but credit to the au [...]

Oh my! I was somewhat unsure about reading a book based on Jack the Ripper but I need not have worried for it was superb. Although the author said it was inspired by ‘Jack’, it was definitely its own story. Fast moving, full of well-portrayed characters; all colourful in their various ways. You could ‘see’ the grime of London, the depravation of the ‘lower’ society. Grisly in places but no unnecessary details; just enough to leave the reader in no doubt as to what’s happened. While [...]

I would like to thank First Reads giveaway for this novel. This is the first time that I have read any novels by Robert Southworth and after such an enjoyable read, it will not be the last. Loved it! I am not going to write what the story is about, as I do not like spoiling for others, but I do recommend.

Stepping outside my usual reading habits I decided to take on a mystery-thriller story. I was pretty confident that the author would have penned an entertaining piece as I have read his Spartacus series and enjoyed that. Not only a different genre, but also a quite different subject awaited me as I read The Reaper’s Breath, as I know next to nothing about the nightmarish exploits of Jack the Ripper. What I found was a nerve-wrangling, page turning tale that was not only entertaining but a deli [...]

**OBTAINED: Giveaway**The Reaper's Breath was really something. This was a fantastic thrill to read. I went into it unawares of what I was getting myself into. I had never read this author before but he is very talented, as I now know. The Reaper's Breath was fast paced and gripping, the scenery was rich and well crafted. The characters were very unique and compelling. Everything was well done. I am very interested in reading further installments of this book. "Mary Kelly lies dead upon her bed [...]

What if Robert Southworth, never wrote Spartacus? What if Robert Southworth, never wrote Wraith of the Furies? What if Robert Southworth never wrote any book, What if Jack the Ripper had been caught? Then the Master of "What ifs" wouldn't of been able to write this fantastic "what If"For me personally I've loved every Southworth novel to date, it's like he is The Man With The Golden Quill, and this one is no exception,Here we have William Harkness, who after losing some one close to him, takes on [...]

What a wonderful surprise this book was. I was expecting it to be good, it is by the author of the Spartacus series so it should be, but I was not prepared for the sheer engrossing page turning effect that this book had on me.I won't describe the story or plot, you can get that else where, but I will say that this is a very enjoyable read and the historical facts are so skilfully entwined with historical fiction that I had to stop and check which was fact and fiction several time.I look forward [...]

SuperbAn excellent read, i imagined I was in the story watching from afar, from beginning till end, I pictured every scene, i got totally engrossed in the story, the author has captured every scene without over goryfying each death, I will be waiting patiently for the next book, of the Ripper Legacies. Well done to Robert Southworth.

This is a rather different take on the whole Jack The Ripper Cannon. Starting a few years before the so-called "Ripper" murders. It appears there is a mass murderer already killing in the East End of London. So while the police have started to look into if these early deaths are linked. The Story takes wing to the savage blood letting in Afghanistan at the Battle of Maiwand, Badly wounded the central character William Harkness slowly recovers and once healthy is recruited by a shadowy bunch of g [...]
