(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Spencer Hill Press and NetGalley.)“I couldn’t understand her because when she opened her mouth she didn’t have a tongue.”This was a bit of an odd story, and I’m not sure I really understood all of it.Rune was an okay character in this story, and it was admirable the way she cared for children who weren’t her own, I just didn’t get the same feel for her as I had in book 1 though. The storyli [...]

"And while I strive to be true, to prove I am not like my mother, despite my bloodline, I will always be the one the others watch carefully. I will always be a witch. And I feel such a stain will never wash away." Oh wow! What a sequel. I already know that Jennifer Murgia will impress me with her skills to transport me into Runes's world and with her amazing writing but what I did not expect is that she will surpass all my expectations. Castle of Sighs floored me! Everything I ever wanted was [...]

(I received a copy from Netgalley, In exchange for an honest review.)Rune was an okay character, but I can't say I loved her in this installment. This wasn't a bad read, but I didn't enjoy it as much as book one. The story just didn't interest me as much, and I got bored.Overall, A bit of a disappointment compared to book one.

Castle of Sighs was a creepy follow-up to Forest of Whispers. Where the first novel fell a bit flat for me, this book did not. Murgia's writing improved a lot, and the characters grew by leaps and bounds in this installment. The plot was fast-paced and intriguing, and even though I was thoroughly creeped out at several points, I couldn't put this book down. This is the perfect Halloween read. Rune wasn't the best character, in my opinion, in the first novel, but she really stood out in this book [...]

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I had no idea that this was the second book in a series, and by the time I realized, it was too late. But I trudged on, because the story seemed fascinating.Who doesn’t love a castle!Better yet, who doesn’t love a creepy castle with a haunting story behind it.The one bad thing about this story was that BECAUSE I had not read the first installment in of these books, I missed a fair deal, and the past story is either mentioned [...]

I received this book in exchange for an honest review which has not altered my opinion. This book took me a while to get through, but it was overall well done and I enjoyed it. I liked the flashback even though it confused me at first, and I’m so glad that the story makes a lot more sense to me now. There was much more character development throughout this story and we really got to know what was going on with the different castles and why magic is so prevalent in Pyrmont Castle.I enjoyed this [...]

4.5 Stars'Castle of Sighs' is the second novel in a young adult paranormal/fantasy series that picks up where the first book left off - with our main character, Rune, trying to adjust to her new life in a castle she has inherited from her family. Rune still feels the deep pull of the Black Forest - the place she has called home for the majority of her life - and also can't help but sense a strange darkness in the castle. Rune settles into her new role of caring for two orphan children at the cas [...]

First of all, I have to say that Jennifer Murgia is a master of creating atmosphere. In Forest of Whispers, she took us deep into the Black Forest of Bavaria, where you could smell the trees and feel the wind as it blew the leaves. In Castle of Sighs, she once again flawlessly transports us to new place, a dark and mysterious castle filled with ghostly apparitions, dangerous magic and dark secrets. As I read this haunting tale , I could feel the eerie chill of the musty secret passages hidden wi [...]

Malevolent forces were watching and lurking in the shadows. Rune was coping with these forces since she was reclaiming her birthright. These forces or spirits were technically witches, but for most of the book it seemed more like a ghost story. The story moved very slowly until over halfway through it. Then many secrets began to unravel all at once. The truth about Laurentz was odd. Other than the fact that it made him and Rune have a bond, there wasn’t any point to it or at least not one I co [...]

What a wonderfully chilling sequel to Forest of Whispers!!This book gave me a crazy case of paranoia related feels and many chills. There were many times I would actually glance over my shoulder just because the chills I got from this book are simply unreal. If you want a good Halloween read with witches and ghosts, this is your book.I’m still just as in love with the characters as I was in book one. One element I loved in this story wasn’t the creepiness of the story but the stronger elemen [...]

If you want to scare yourself with a long night of creepy fun, then curl up with a copy of Castle of Sighs by Jennifer Murgia. Witches, both dead and alive, evil spirits, and mystery combine to create an almost made for TV movie book about the supernatural. The story begins in the Winter of 1628 in a creepy castle in a creepy forest. Rune is a witch by blood but she is in no way a bad person. In fact, bad people and bad things want to dominate her, change the course of her life and steal her her [...]

FOR MORE BOOK REVIEWS, CHECK OUT cabookle.tumblrI received this book in advance through NetGalley for reviewing purposes; the following is my HONEST opinion of the book as I was in no way obligated to give a positive review. Thank you NetGalley and Spencer Hill Press for letting me read this book in advance! Summary: Now that the terrible witch hunt is over, Rune has finally moved into her ancestral home of Pyrmont Castle, ready to raise the two orphans left in her care. As winter drags on, some [...]

Review:Protagonist: It's been months since Rune has last heard her mother's voice and now she lives at Pyrmont her ancestral home yet she feels out of place. Soon she discovers dark secrets and shocking revelations that will not only affect her but those she loves as well. In this book Rune feels completely out of place in her life. She doesn't feel she deserves the title of Lady of Pyrmont, but at the same time she doesn't want to be the witch of Pyrmont either. Rune's character development in [...]

Book Review- Castle of Sighs by Jennifer MurgiaIn the second book for the series, Rune is living with the unclaimed orphans in her inherited castle of Pyrmont. She feels out of place and wants to return to her forest but knows she is not able to. She is doing the right thing. She is all little Margret has. Her mother died in the dungeon of the Bishop. Niclaus is unclaimed also.Something dark inhabits the castle. When Niclaus finds human bones, a feeling of dread takes over Rune. When Niclaus als [...]

Castle of Sighs by Jennifer Murgia is book two of the Forest of Whispers series and if you haven’t read book one, you should consider checking it out. Murgia wrote a story about witches and magic while also tying in a bit of history to create something that had me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. When this book opens, Rune is staying at Pyrmont Castle and taking care of two orphans who were left after the witch hunt. As she settles in, Rune feels a pull to certain areas o [...]

Note: I read this at the same time as The Witch of Painted Sorrows. I didn’t realize at the beginning how similar the stories were but some similarities may have influenced how I felt about each of the books. Also, I didn’t realize until halfway through that this is the second in the series. As I said before, “whoops!” There seems to be a lot of backstory missing that would help the story be a little clearer. After inheriting an empty castle with a dark past, young Rune is just settling i [...]

This was provided as an ARC by the publisher but the review is my own.In a house built on the bones and blood of a powerful witch line there is a secret that threatens to undermine a fragile existence that has been forged for a young woman by her mother's sacrifice. Although she is a witch whose power will prove her to be one of the strongest of her kind she is coming into them just as witch hunts are becoming a real threat. She is neither normal nor safe and she must tread carefully at all time [...]

(free copy from netgalley in exchange for honest review)A perfectly creepy story to read the week before Halloween. This witchy, ghostly tale properly chilled me from start to finish. Rune is trying to find her place in an empty, unfamiliar castle with Laurentz, her love. She finds that her, Laurentz and the two children she's vowed to protect are not the only ones residing there.I have only one complaint – a few chapters in I started to wonder if I was missing something, so I did a little res [...]

Castle of Sighs by Jennifer Murgia continues where Forest of Whispers left off. Rune now lives in Pyrmont. She finds traces of protection but she's not sure what she's being protected from. She has been left in charge of two orphans from the Bishop's witch hunt. She worries for their safety and asks Laurentz to take them to his castle. Rune finds an ancient book that reveals the history of the Pyrmont Castle and her ancestors, including her mother. Everything changes drastically after finding th [...]

Received from NetGalley in exchange for honest review Well that was just. weird. I can't really put in to words what I thought of this book because I still don't quite understand what it is I just read. Of course it doesn't help that this is the second book in a series and I didn't know this going in, so the prior knowledge may have been helpful, but still weird.

This book was just simply a good read. There wasn't anything thrilling or much action but the story carries you through until the end. Well written.

This story will haunt meI need to see more of Rune and Laurentz, of Adelaide and Niclaus! Review to come!
