A comprehensive look at bushfires in Australia, from the 19th century through to the latest fires (at the time of writing) in 2003. This edition I read came out just prior to Black Saturday. Bar that event, this would be the most comprehensive book on bushfires in Australia. The section on timber logging camps and their vulnerability when faced with a bushfire was fascinating. he author also looks at the back burning approach favored in Australia and discusses issues surrounding this approach. Brilliantly researched.

Very well written, an unbiased view of the problems of bush fires in Australia from the first settlers to the 2003 Canberra fires. Puts forward some very good views on the subjects which makes you think.
