When Fred & Donna Winters felt the desire to adopt another dog they did their homework and connected with Michigan's Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (U.P.A.W.S). Their mission as dog owners is to provide a loving and protected environment to older dogs from animal shelters. Vinnie, a Lab/Doberman mix, won their hearts, and their adventures commenced. Vinnie's antics mimicked the words sung by Frank Sinatra, "I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall, and did it my w [...]

This book made me laugh and cry and remember several dogs and cats we've had over the years. Most of our pets have been "free to good homes" rather than shelter adoptions, but it amounts to the same thing. Two of our cats were "rescued" from our own yard--born to Ferrell cats in the neighborhood. I knew exactly what Donna and her husband went through on that "one way trip" to the vet. It is never easy to take a beloved pet on that ride, but it is sometimes necessary. I plan to re-gift my copy of [...]

First off, I want to thank Donna for sending this book for review. A delightful story about a dog who had issues. Totally unpredictable, the only thing they good predict about Vinnie was that, his unpredictability. But also that he loved them. A loveable pooch, with a story. Donna and her husband were very patient with a dog, who easily could make anyone loose their patience. I loved Vinnie's story, and you will too, if your a dog lover. It is a well told story, and you will laugh and cry with t [...]

Having adopted my own shelter dog seven years ago, Fred and Donna Winters story was one close to my heart. The retired couple from Michigan cares a great deal about shelter animals. After the loss of one of their dogs they decide to give an older dog a chance to have a ‘forever’ home and chose Vinnie from the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter. Adventures With Vinnie is the true story of the Winters’ life with their Doberman Lab mix named Vinnie.Because of everything I went through wit [...]

I won this book through an author interview on a blog. I requested the hard copy, but decided since the ebook was on sale I would go ahead and get it to read. It was a very quick read on Kindle and the story is precious. I was pleased to have the first reading enhanced when I received the hard copy with its photos. This is an important book for the shelter and pet rescue community. It shows the joys associated with adopting the older dog. I am so thankful that Vinnie landed with this loving coup [...]

This a "must read" book for dog lovers. I felt as though I was in the same room as the author as she writes about her experiences with her two dogs, particularly Vinnie. The book has many comical moments to share with readers and I found it hard to put the book down. People who own or have previously owned a dog from a shelter can relate to the ups and downs of trying to teach good behavior and how to deal with mischievous dog moments as well as the downside of pet ownership--especially dealing [...]

Based on a true story, this book had me laughing out loud with Vinnie's antics, he was a dog with an adventurous spirit! I admire his owners for rescuing him when no one loved him, and for their everlasting patience till' the end, when something sad happens, which made me cry.
