This is another collection of short stories which were re-issued in this particular collection published in 1997, so not a compilation that Dame Agatha would have had a hand in compiling.Nevertheless, there are some real gems amongst the stories. My personal favourites, the eponymous While the Light Lasts, The Edge and The Actress, are where AC shows some of the darker aspects of life, and she does it well. The stories do not follow the usual formula of the who-dunnit and if that is what you are [...]

There are many stories in this collection which aren't related to Mr. Poirot but I enjoy most of them just the same! Ms. Christie's obvious talent shines through in these cleverly written and brilliantly plotted short stories of her!

Review originally posted in Abby's Shelves: goo/ZjDRNDRatings: 3/5While the light lasts is an anthology of earliest short stories of the Queen of crime mystery Agatha Christie. First of all the titling of this book as Hercule Poirot #41 is misleading, only two of which are Poirot series. It is the second time this month I’m falling for such misleading titles that too with Agatha Christie.Even though I didn’t enjoy all the stories as expected, there were some brilliant ones like While the lig [...]

Only came across this when I saw one of my friends, Dawn, was reading it. Didn't even know it existed. I'm a big fan of the late Dame Agatha Christie's short stories and this proved to be a delightful collection. From crime stories to vaguely creepy stories, this one is a winner.Highly recommended.

First, I don't know who wrote the summary and title for this book on , but it certainly should NOT be labeled Hercule Poirot #41 as if it were a novel or collection of all Poirot shorts. Only 2 of the stories feature Poirot and they are the only 2 that can be called detective stories. The summary calls these "previously unpublished" stories. They were not only all previously published, but the notes at the end of each story lists the original publication. Many were also previously published in e [...]

While the Light Lasts (Hercule Poirot #41), Agatha ChristieThe House of Dreams, The Actress, The Edge, Christmas Adventure, The Lonely God, Manx Gold, Within a Wall, The Mystery of the Baghdad Chest, While the Light Lasts.

[NOTE: despite title/description, this is NOT a Poirot novel, it's a collection of early Christie stories, only two of which are Poirot stories, one short story, one a novella; the remainder are not truly mysteries, they're sweet-but-spooky short stories]WHILE THE LIGHT LASTS and other Stories, Agatha Christie1997, Nine creepy/supernatural stories, all initially published in magazines in the 1920s and 1930s; This collection was only published in the UK but all the other stories except one were p [...]

Agatha Christie seven her kiş [...]

I will not pass any time on the two Poirot story included here, for one thing I have read them in other anthologies of Agatha Christie's work with different titles, but it is the same stories (or variations of, I'm not sure since I haven't read them right before and compared them). Update on first review : Curious as I am, I verified which versions they are and if they predated the other versions with other names. These included here are actually the originals : Christmas Adventure (the later ex [...]

This book contains compilation of variety of Christie's novel. Not all of them are detective stories. Even there is a supernatural story and also a love story. All of them are still full of mystery. Some of them are also Christie's beginning works so they are very shallow (yes because they are short stories). But from these beginnings, a masterpiece is developed. Also there is always a description at back of each story, which tell us the history of writing and how this writing affect the style o [...]

I loved this book so much! The short stories were all (apart from one) excellent and they were very different from one another. It was interesting to read some of her non-crime writing, but also fascinating to watch how she could make a masterful crime story in just a few pages. There was one short story I didn't enjoy (I believe it was called Manx Gold). It just didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the short stories at all.

Collection of stories published originally 1939 and prior.I found several to be quite dark and depressive as stories of human interest. The Hercule Poirot mystery was what I'm used to in Christie's detective series and found this one well crafted. Clues kept close to his chest and not divulged til the reveal by M. Poirot.

2.5 stars. A collection of rather peculiar short stories and in my opinion not up to her usual standard; with the exception of the two involving Hercule Poirot, which I had read and enjoyed previously.

The House of Dreams: First published in issue 74 of the Sovereign Magazine in January 1926, illustrated by Stanley Lloyd. The Actress: First published in issue 218 of The Novel Magazine in May 1923 under the title of A Trap for the Unwary, with an illustration by Emile Verpilleux. Prior to the publication of this volume, the story (with its 1923 illustration) was reprinted in the 1990 paperback Agatha Christie – Official Centenary Celebration by Belgrave Publishing (ISBN 0-00-637675-4). The Act [...]

I get this book a little by impulse after i finished Murder on the Orient Express and when i decided to buy more books from Christie i stumble upon this one in a promotion 1=2. When i read the blurb i do not get the right impression about what type of book this was, in reality this is a collection of short stories written by the author during her life and not a full book. Personally i do not like this format because the stories are so small that we can´t get the felling we normally got from her [...]

This book is a precious collection of Agatha Christie’s earlier works which was published in the numerous newspapers. Consisting nine wonderful short stories, this book is a perk for Christie fans. The first story ‘The House of Dreams’ is a quite a different story which has a hint of the paranormal.‘The Actress’ is one of my favorite stories in this book, where an actress proves her acting wit to outdo a blackmailer. ‘The Edge’ is also an interesting story where adultery leads to an [...]

A lovely collection of short stories from the mistress of whodunnit. Some are better than others, some are more well known - The Blue Geranium and The Spanish Chest are included in this collection.

Raccolta postuma di racconti. I racconti sono interessanti, e in alcuni compare pure Poirot, ma la parte più interessante sono i commenti ai diversi racconti e le informazioni che ci si trovano.

An interesting collection of stories; mopping up the few short stories of Christie's that never got published elsewhere.

A set of stories by Agatha Christie. A few of them, I had previously read in other collections, but they were worth reading again.

A collection of seven short stories, two of which are Poirot. Never boring but never outstanding either.

A set of early Christie stories. No real definite gems in here, but a lot of good stuff and all were absorbing. I particularly liked The Edge (damn does she do psychological horror well) and the Lonely God (they're in love!!), and found myself strangely indifferent to the Poirot Christmas story.A fun, fairly light read.

This is a poor collection of stories that were not great. Only worth reading if you are wanting to read all of Agatha Christies books. They are ok but not very exciting.
