To Know You by Shannon Ethridge & Kathryn Mackel was a good book to read. I really enjoyed reading this and I have to say I love how the book came full circle and I was in love with the ending to this book. I found that at times I would get pissed off at Julia by how she acted and other times I totally understood why she did the things that she did. There are so many ups and downs in this book that kept me going because I was always wondering what was going to happen next with the characters [...]

This is a very deep and moving story, it took me a while to finish it because it is so emotional, I finished wiping tears from my eyes. This is a story of a woman, Julia Whittaker, who gave up two daughter's, by two different fathers, for adoption. She seeks them out because her son is dying from liver failure. She finds them to see if they would be possible matches, and would be willing to donate part of their liver for Dillon. First she finds Destiny, who lives in LA and has just broken up wit [...]

Amazing!! Shannon takes you on a journey with this family that is both breathtaking and yet so real! When we make choices in life, those choices can go on to affect our lives for years to come. No matter how long we are carrying around baggage, God is always there saying "that's not yours to carry, it's mine!" As we walk with Julia through her life we see how hard and yet how easy healing and restoration can be! There isn't a relationship in our lives that this intricate, beautiful story doesn't [...]

This book is absolutely wonderful, and has it all. I didn't want to put it down! As I was reading it, I had the thought that it will be whatever the reader needs it to be -- from simply a well-written compelling Christian novel, to either a lesson in forgiveness, or in how God intends marriage to be, or that it's ok to talk about and think about sex and be sexual in marriage because that's how God created us and it's one of the gifts He's given us. And all the twists and turns! When I was nearin [...]

Julia Whittaker gave up her two daughters for adoption over 20 years ago, and we are taken on a journey to find them in the hope of saving her dying son Dillon. A really interesting, beautifully woven Christian Fiction story. This story tugs at the heart strings and quite often I was unable to put the book down - a wonderful story about facing up to decisions of the past and then taking each day as it comes and moving forward. 4.5 stars…

I was hesitant with this book when it first began, and skeptical of how "preachy" it could be. However, once I kept reading, I found all the main characters to be likable and good people. While "To Know You" certainly referenced the power of God, there were still so many other factors to this book. The story centers around Julia, her son, and two daughters she had given up for adoption. When her son is in desperate need of a liver transplant, Julia finally resorts to contacting the daughters she [...]

To Know You by Shannon Ethridge is a novel filled with a roller coaster of emotions. Julia and Matt Whittaker's son, Dillon, is in need of a living liver transplant. Julia must reconnect with her past and see if love, forgiveness, and understanding from the two daughters she gave up for adoption at a rough time in her life can be made to save her son. I would suggest this book to someone who likes a book with a variety of emotions, and a book that has you on the edge of your seat, constantly won [...]

A contemporary Christian fiction novel. It is a multifaceted story, with interesting characters that struggle with their Christianity at times, because like all people, they are flawed and real. I enjoyed this novel. I especially enjoyed the fact that this was a great story about realistic characters, but without unnecessary and inappropriate content.

To Know You is a beautifully woven novel that challenges its readers as the believers and non-believer characters are challenged in face in the most intense and trying ways. This book caught me off guard. It was incredibly extreme on multiple levels of discomfort and emotions that I had to take a step back and take a breathe. I was gripped with these characters and their struggles that were all too unique and heartbreaking. I could not stop crying. I could not help by relate. I could not stop re [...]

One of the best Christian fiction books I have ever read! Strong values and - what I dig even more as a book lover - very, very good and quality literature. It hooked me completely from first page and I devoured it within hours.Julia Whittaker´s teenage son Dillon is dying because of liver disease. She and her husband are desperately looking for a donor (liver is one of few organs able to regenerate and the donor gives only a part of his own organ), but every possible donor is unacceptable beca [...]

To Know You breaks the stereotypes of most adoption-redemption stories in a fantastic way. I've always thought of adoption reunions as happy but stressful times. You know, with everyone crying and shouting and rehashing all the reasons why things had to be the way they did, and with people being angry about the separation but secretly happy to be reuniting. It doesn't work out that way in this book. While the daughters are rebellious and everyone is happy, at least in some way, Julia takes her swe [...]

To Know You is the first of Shannon Ethridge and Kathryn Mackel's writing I have had the honor of reading. To Know You is Shannon Ethridge's debut novel. To Know You is a novel about Julia Whittaker, who years before gave 2 daughters up for adoption to give them better lives, but now needs them to try and help her son who is in need of a liver transplant. Julia never intended to meet her girls, she gave them up to give them better lives and never wanted to interfere even now that they are adults [...]

To Know You by Shannon Ethridge and Kathryn Mackel holds a depth of honesty about searching and raging and grappling with life’s questions that a scrapper like me has not often found, at least not without the accompanying judgments or soapbox lecture. As the pages unfolded poignantly the mosaic of human tensions and intrigue, this “story” felt less and less like fiction to me. Its true intention rang instead through the halls of my heart like the bells of a great cathedral, announcing some [...]

I am not normally a fan of contemporary fiction. Don’t like reading things that could be happening now really as I find it either poorly written or too conspiracy/emotionally charged/based.However, I found myself on the review list for To Know You. And I’m glad I was. This book, despite the fact that it is set in modern day, was riveting to me. It took me in with the first chapter and it didn’t let me go until I had finished the book. And yes, I stayed up until three in the morning to fini [...]

Sometimes the only way to go forward is to go back. The past is something Julia Whittaker has put behind her – specifically, giving up two baby girls for adoption. However, her son is very sick and needs a liver transplant. Everyone they know has been disqualified due to the blood type or a disease. Their last hope it to find those two girls, who are now adults, and ask them to get tested. This book was chosen as part of a book club I joined. It’s written as a Christian novel and several of t [...]

Not only does Julia meet her daughters but she also takes them to meet each other and their fathers. But along the ride they get to know each other and grow closer toget [...]

To Know You was truly an original read with a unique plot line including a little suspense, mystery and of course, love!Julia Whittaker has a very sick son who needs a liver transplant and two daughters she'd given up at birth and not seen since that may be possible donors. She finds herself torn between the past she tried to forget and the son she so desperately wants to save.Julia finds herself on a journey basically revisiting her past in order to secure her sons future. I found Julia endeari [...]

This story is very interesting and had me on the edge of my pillow most of last Saturday night and into Sunday morning. There are some very deep subjects covered in Julia's story and it was very emotional and thought provoking all the way through. The salvation message is strong throughout this book and it was easy to see the different levels that each of the female characters were in with their walk with Christ. This is a wonderful book - not just for the strong scriptural and faith background [...]
