Douglas Thayer is fast becoming one of my favorite LDS authors and is a beloved writer of LDS literary fiction. This is a collection of novels about men in Utah. However, the characters struggle with age, religion, regret, etc. and most stories are set in the streams, mountains and lakes of Utah. He writes incredibly well, and none of the stories have "wrapped" up endings like you find on the shelves of LDS books stores. One of my favorite LDS short stories I've yet to read is in this collection [...]

Thayer has an authentic voice that captures boyhood in remarkable ways. This is a collection of short stories that are compelling on a number of levels. Reading this collection of stories brought back memories of my own childhood and the simple joys of fishing, hunting, and wilderness and watching old Westerns with my dad.
